Think Trauma: Training for staff in Juvenile Justice Settings

On Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM EDT, the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators (CJCA), will host a webinar on trauma-informed care, moderated by Madeleine M. Byrne, PsyD, LCSW, LSOTP, Director of Treatment for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. This webinar will provide a brief introduction to the concepts and best-practices of care for youth within the juvenile justice system with histories of traumatic events and chronic trauma experiences in their lives. The webinar addresses the definition of trauma, develops awareness of the prevalence of trauma exposure in the population of youth in the juvenile justice system, identifies the role that trauma plays in child development and relational difficulties of justice involved youth. There will be some discussion of perspectives and approaches that promote recovery and resiliency, allowing participants to begin to integrate trauma-informed strategies into their daily practice with youth.
