Reducing Crime and Prison Spending: Justice Reinvestment in AL, GA and NC

8 Wed
March 2017

On Wednesday, March 8, 2017 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM EST please join us for a briefing about justice reinvestment, a data-driven approach to reduce corrections and related criminal justice spending, and reinvest those savings in strategies that improve public safety.

Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina joined 27 other states that have used justice reinvestment to slow overall prison growth, and for some states, reduce the total prison population. Together, these states have saved $1.1 billion to date in averted prison operating and construction costs, while reinvesting hundreds of millions in effective supervision and treatment programs to make communities safer.

Panelists include:

  • Justice Michael Boggs, Supreme Court of Georgia
  • Chief Deputy Secretary W. David Guice, North Carolina's Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice
  • Alabama State Sen. Cam Ward, Chair, Senate Judiciary Committee
  • Michael Thompson, Director, The Council of State Governments Justice Center
