OJJDP Webinar on Family Engagement in Juvenile Justice

13 Wed
February 2013

NC4YC, in partnership with the OJJDP National Training and Technical Assistance Center, is hosting a three-part webinar series on family engagement in the juvenile and criminal justice systems. In the first webinar of this series, expert panelists addressed the importance of engaging with families in order to ensure positive outcomes for youth in the justice system.

Building on this theme the next webinar, entitled "Expanding on the Definitions of Family and Engagement to Provide Better and More Effective Services", will explore the definition of “family” and what it means for agencies and practitioners to meaningfully “engage” with them. Panelists will discuss the need to expand our understanding of “family” and offer strategies for involving and empowering families of court-involved youth. The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Jeffrey Butts, director of the Research and Evaluation Center at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, and panelists will include Grace Bauer, co-director of Justice for Families, and Mark Seymour, a college student and youth advocate.
