Adolescent Development and the Unique Issues Facing Girls

This session provides an overview of girls' development and growth during adolescence and the opportunities and risks that they face. Topics include physical changes, socialization, roles and relationships, identity development, risks, and resiliency as factors affecting girls during this critical time. After completing this webinar, participants will have a basic understanding of developmental issues for adolescent girls that will support more effective work with girls and young women ages 12 to 18. Participants will be able to describe:

  • Typical and atypical developmental trajectories
  • The role of peer and family relationships
  • The impact of culture and values
  • Strategies for fostering resiliency and empowerment
